Scholarship 12 PhD Fellowships at the Graduate School of East Asian Studies

at FU Berlin in Berlin, Germany

The Graduate School of East Asian Studies at FU Berlin, Germany, invites applications for 12 Ph.D. Stipends/Fellowships.

In addition, up to three doctoral candidates per year will be admitted with funding from other sources.

Applications are accepted until March 31, 2013 via our online application system NOAH.

Ph.D. fellowships will start on October 1, 2013.

We seek candidates with strong academic abilities and a Master’s degree in either East Asian Studies (Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies) or a discipline (Political Science, History, Social and Cultural Anthropology, Economics, Law, Sociology, Cultural Studies) with a focus on East Asia.

The research program of the Graduate School of East Asian Studies focuses on the study of institutions: rules, norms and practices, both those that are globally general and regionally specific. The research program aims at developing a theoretically informed and empirically grounded understanding of the origins, effects, and interdependence of institutions in East Asia, both contemporary and historical.

In its three year program, the Graduate School combines East Asian Studies (Japanese, Korean and Chinese Studies) with training in the social sciences (political science, economics, law, social and cultural anthropology) as well as history and cultural studies. The language of instruction is English.
