Free-Position Lecturer in Korean language for fall 2012

The Department of Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures in the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Iowa invite applications for a Lecturer in Korean language for fall 2012. Lecturer positions are academic-year, term faculty appointments, with summer session appointment possible on the same basis as for other faculty. Although they are not tenure-track, Lecturers are considered regular (not temporary) faculty. The appointments are initially for one academic year, renewable up to three years, with subsequent three-year appointments possible, subject to satisfactory review. Korean has been taught at Iowa for several years, and we are seeking a dynamic, progressive-thinking colleague to develop a growing program. The Department and Division are committed to expanding offerings in East Asian languages, with Korean playing a key role. An M.A. in language acquisition or Korean language pedagogy is required, and a Ph.D. is preferred. Also required are native or near native fluency in Korean and competency in both spoken and written English. Candidates should have experience in teaching Korean language to English-speaking students at the college level. Responsibilities also include coordinating Korean language courses and developing a Korean minor or certificate in the Department. The ability to teach courses in either Korean linguistics or Korean popular culture is desired.
