UNIVERSITY INSTRUCTORSHIP IN KOREAN
UNIVERSITY INSTRUCTOR: Salary 15,735 - 18,27 GBP p.a

Applications are invited for a University Instructorship in Korean for
a period of three years with effect from 1 October 1999, or as soon as
possible thereafter.  The University salary will be according to age on
the scale 15,735 to 18,275 pounds sterling per annum.  

The Instructor will be expected to give between 15 and 20 hours of
instruction in Korean in each week of the University's full term and
shall have responsibility for the organisation of such practical
instruction.  Teaching shall initially be required principally for
undergraduates reading for the BA in Oriental Studies (Chinese or
Japanese), and the Instructor should have some facility in one or both
languages.  Instruction in Korean for other students or degrees will
also have to be offered if there is a demand.  

Applicants must have a native command of Korean and considerable
experience of teaching Korean as a foreign language.  They must be
educated at least to degree level.  A postgraduate qualification in a
relevant discipline may be an advantage.  Experience of British culture
and the English educational system is desirable.  The Instructor will be
required to provide non-intensive classes for members of the
University with an interest in Korea, and it is desirable that the
Instructor should have a broad knowledge of the Humanities or the
Social Sciences.  The Instructor will be required to develop teaching
materials employing multimedia and will be expected to participate in
the further development of the profile of Korean Studies in the
University.
