Slightly adapted / corrected from today's Korea Times: Buddhist Master Sungsan, Great Zen Master of the
Chogye Order of Korean Buddhism, died Tuesday at Hwagyesa Temple in Seoul. He was 77. Sungsan was born in
1927 in Sunchon, South Pyongan Province, which is now part of North Korea. In 1949, he studied under the
guidance of Rev. Kobong at Sudoksa Temple in South Chungchong Province. Master Sungsan devoted his life to
spreading Korean Buddhism abroad. Beginning at Hungbomwon Temple in Japan, he established around 120
