[KS] Chinese "control" over Choson

In response to Don Baker’s query “Has anybody seen evidence of that same need to hide Korea's diplomatic relations with Japanese after 1600?”
 
This does not directly answer Don’s question, but it is clear that the Chosôn court sought to hide many aspects of its dealings with Catholicism in Korea in the 19th century. This included, among other things, sending a carefully edited version of Hwang Sa-yong’s famous “silk letter” in a report to Beijing .
