Dear Colleagues,

Is there any information available about the life and professional career of HAN Sang-uk that you may be able to provide for inclusion in an annotated bibliographical entry that I have prepared for publication in my nearly completed bibliography, "A Century of Doctoral Dissertations on Korea, 1903-2004"?

Born in 1898, Han studied economics in the Faculty of Law and Political Science of the University of Zurich in Switzerland.  He received his doctorate in 1927 for a 96 page long dissertation entitled "Die Landwirtschaft von Korea" [The Agriculture of Korea] (Dr. oec. publ., Rechts- und Staatswissenschaftliche Fakultät: Nationalökonomie) that dealt with the natural basis, political and social organization, products, foreign trade, and performance of Korean agriculture as of the mid-1920s.  The dissertation itself was printed as

"Die Landwirtschaft von Korea", by Sang-uk Han, Zürich: Hans A. Gutzwiller [Druck], 1927. 96p.

Its table of conents is as follows:

1. Die natürlichen Grundlagen.  2. Staatliche und soziale Organisation.  3. Die Landwirtschaft Koreas.  4. Die landwirtschaftliche Produktion und der Aussenhandel.  5. Die Förderung der Landwirtschaft.  Schlusswort.  1 figure.  37 tables.  Bibliography: p.3.

I am particularly interested in knowing

(1) his year of death

(2) his most important contributions to the development of Korea -- assuming that he returned to Korea following his study in Switzerland and that he rose to some prominence during the decades that followed.

Would you please note that I do NOT need detailed information.  My intention would be to limit the write-up to around 50-75 words.

Thank you very much in advance for whatever information you may be able to provide in the weeks ahead.  As always, your help will be greatly appreciated.

With best wishes,

Frank
