‘Reimagining Korean Identity through Wars, Money,Ideas and Exchanges: 

70 years’ Identity Transformation’

 

 

To be held at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia.

August 17-18, 2018.

 
MonashUniversity Korean Studies Research Hub, Deakin University, Melbourne Universityis pleased to host ‘ReimaginingKorean Identity through Wars, Money, Ideas and Exchanges:70 years’ Identity Transformation,’                         a conferencesupported by the AKS Core University Program for Korean Studies. 
 

August 15 2018will mark the seventieth anniversary of the establishment of the Republic ofKorea; the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea soon followed. To mark theoccasion, this conference aims to critically engagewith some of the most important issues that have affected contemporary Koreaover the past seven decades. We welcome proposals for papers and panels on allaspects of North and South Korean history, society and culture, especiallythose that deal with the following question:

 

Whoare Koreans today? Who have they become over 70 years through war, development,division, cultural exchange, travel and globalisation? 

 

Theconference is organized by a committee comprised of Dr Andrew David Jackson(Monash University), Associate Professor David Hundt (Deakin University) and DrJay Song (Melbourne University).

Accommodationwill be provided to successful applicants travelling from outside the Melbournearea. There is a limited amount of funding available to cover travel expenses forselected presenters whose papers have been accepted. Priority will be given tojunior scholars.

In your proposal, please indicate a) whether you intend to applyfor travel/accommodation support; and b) whether you would like your paper tobe considered for publication as part of a special issue of an academic journal




Deadline for proposals: 15 March 2018




Applicantswill be notified of the result by 30 March.

 

Proposal format:

Inyour proposals - both for individual papers and panel proposals - pleaseinclude your name, institutional affiliation, paper title, an abstract of 300words, and a 50-100 word biography of the author.

 

Pleasesend the abstract as an email attachment to Andy Jackson at: andy.jackson at monash.edu

Theemail subject should be the same as the file name which should be: familyname first name RKI. (jacksonandyRKI)
