Hmmm... Congresses are cancelled. Messages are scrubbed. Sounds sinister...
<br>

Anyway, for those who missed the news or needs the link, I would like to inform you that the 2nd World Congress of Korean Studies did take place in Pyongyang between the 4th and 5th August 2004. It is difficult to claim it was a truly "World Congress" because only 24 foreign participants managed to get to Pyongyang after the South Korean and Japanese co-organisers informed them about the last minute cancellation of the event. In such circumstances, the original motto of the Congress - "Korean Studies in the Era of Reconciliation and Cooperation" - looked more like a sad mistake.

For some mysterious reason, a large number of the accepted research papers had never reached DPRK Academy of Social Sciences making made the task for North Korean organisers even more difficult. These papers were translated into Korean on the spot to help local participants actively engage in discussions. Altogether, 150 papers were presented at 9 different panels.
