dans toutes les provinces de mon royaume.<BR>

Les mouvements de leur langue, de leurs lèvres et de leurs dents vous<BR>
permettront de dessiner ensemble des lettres nouvelles que tous les Coréens<BR>
pourront apprendre en quelques heures et qui leur permettront d’écrire<BR>
précisément leurs pensées et de lire celles des autres comme ils l’entendent<BR>
eux-mêmes. »<BR>

Ce roi est Sejong le Grand et son « alphabet » s’appelle Han’gul. Il fut<BR>
créé dans le calme d’un beau matin coréen, en 1444. Création originale s’il<BR>
en est, spontanée au niveau de la planète. La Corée d’alors était mal<BR>
informée du monde extérieur qui le lui rendait bien. L’Europe, celle de<BR>
Gutenberg, de Louvain, de Byzance, ignorait jusqu’à l’existence de ce<BR>
diverticule extrême oriental de l’Eurasie qui s’appelait alors « Choson »,<BR>
du nom d’une dynastie qui régnait encore quand la Belgique reconnut<BR>
diplomatiquement la Corée en 1898.<BR>
<BR>
Cette histoire merveilleuse est peut-être une légende. Mais elle est aussi<BR>
une réalité providentielle et actuelle. La culture coréenne, et donc la<BR>
Corée en tant que nation ont sans doute été sauvées ainsi d’une dilution<BR>
dans l’immense culture chinoise déjà très mélangée. La simplicité presque<BR>
ludique du « han’gul » a aussi donné aux Coréens l’accès démocratique à tous<BR>
les savoirs du temps, réservés jusqu’alors aux rares lettrés en chinois,<BR>
classe savante, dominante, privilégiée, à l’abri des quelques 80 000<BR>
idéogrammes de l’Empire du Milieu.<BR>
<BR>
Aujourd’hui, les 10 voyelles et les 14 consonnes de l’alphabet coréen<BR>
peuvent figurer en duo sur les claviers informatiques occidentaux ce qui<BR>
n’est pas évident pour les transcriptions chinoises et japonaises. Et la<BR>
Corée est alphabétisée à près de 100%, beaucoup plus que ses grands voisins.<BR>

<BR>
Décidément, pas comme les autres<BR>

Si on parle du « han’gul », il faut mentionner aussi le « han’bok ». Il ne<BR>
s’agit plus de transcription mais bien d’habillement. Parce que les Coréens<BR>
ont depuis toujours une façon de se vêtir qui leur est propre, au propre et<BR>
au figuré si on ose ce jeu de mots. Autrement dit, tous les jours à la<BR>
campagne, surtout pour les vieux, dans les rites et les cérémonies à la<BR>
ville, et cela depuis la nuit des temps jusqu’à ce jour, le « han’bok » des<BR>
messieurs est plutôt blanc avec des garnitures sombres comme il sied à leur<BR>
dignité ; pour les femmes, sa taille très haute et ses tons joyeux font<BR>
tourner les têtes dans la rue et dans les réceptions internationales.<BR>
<BR>
Il y a une autre exclusivité à usage quotidien : la nourriture qui<BR>
privilégie les légumes et les fruits. Dans les avions de ligne, on en sert<BR>
avec bonheur quelques plats qui se marient très bien avec les petits et les<BR>
grand crus de l’Hexagone. Les fromages français s’accompagnent aussi avec<BR>
bonheur du « Kimshi », mets emblématique de la Corée dont la base est le<BR>
chou fermenté. Il se conserve tout l’hiver et s’inspire aussi des souvenirs<BR>
nomades venus des confins de l’Europe. C’est comme la langue coréenne.<BR>
Ouralo-Altaïque elle cousine presque autant avec le hongrois et le<BR>
finlandais qu’avec le japonais, le chinois étant surtout son grenier à<BR>
vocabulaire.<BR>
<BR>
Tous ces éléments bien pratiques ont aussi une dimension spirituelle : le<BR>
Chamanisme emporté jadis de Sibérie dans les bagages de la migration et qui<BR>
imprègne encore la société coréenne d’aujourd’hui.<BR>
<BR>
La culture coréenne dispose donc, ce qui est rarissime, de plusieurs outils<BR>
majeurs et exclusifs : une langue et un alphabet personnels, des références<BR>
vestimentaires et culinaires résistantes à la mondialisation. Cela illustre<BR>
et explique peut-être trois tentations persistantes et paradoxales qui<BR>
semblent habiter les Coréens depuis quatre ou cinq mille ans.<BR>
<BR>
Le penchant de l’ermite qui s’entend bien avec lui-même et sait alimenter<BR>
son propre dialogue dans le confort d’une fière solitude, le « vivons cachés<BR>
pour être heureux » que pratique encore aujourd’hui la Corée du Nord, sans<BR>
que le bonheur, il est vrai, ne soit au rendez-vous. Le goût du défi d’un<BR>
David entre deux Goliath, la Chine ou le Japon, qui, selon les<BR>
circonstances, l’annexent ou l’abandonnent mais n’ont jamais réussi à<BR>
l’effacer de la carte. On dit là-bas que la Corée, telle une langouste,<BR>
échappera toujours, grâce à l’astuce de ses antennes et la mobilité de ses<BR>
pattes, aux appétits des deux baleines qui fréquentent le même coin du<BR>
Pacifique.<BR>
<BR>
Le besoin libertaire du non alignement est aussi sans doute l’héritage du<BR>
lointain passé nomade. Il conduit au culte de la différence positive et à la<BR>
recherche de l’excellence pour conforter l’affirmation de soi et mieux se<BR>
situer dans le monde.<BR>
<BR>
Quand on a subi, entre autres avanies, des siècles de misère, les pesanteurs<BR>
de la société confucéenne, 35 années d’esclavage japonais jusqu’en 1945, qui<BR>
visait et brisait l’esprit, les reins et les cœurs, et aussitôt après, une<BR>
guerre fratricide et meurtrière, survivre encore est un miracle, pouvoir se<BR>
repenser est une chance, et déduire de tous ces malheurs une personnalité<BR>
renouvelée et taillée sur mesure pour les besoins du temps, est un exploit<BR>
très opportun. <BR>
<BR>
C’est en quelque sorte à ce second matin de la Corée que le monde, un peu<BR>
ébahi, est invité à assister maintenant.<BR>
