Sunshik Min Endowment for the Advancement of Korean Literature<br>
Post-doctoral Fellowships in Korean Literature<br>
at the Korea Institute, Harvard University<br>
<br>
The Korea Institute at Harvard University will offer a postdoctoral
fellowship in Korean literature for the 2006-07 academic year to a
scholar of exceptional promise, to provide an opportunity to complete a
translated book manuscript, and to participate actively in related
activities of Harvard and the Korean literature community at large.<br>
<br>
The Fellowship Grant:<br>
1. The fellowship will cover a 12-month period beginning September
1, 2006, with a stipend of $40,000 and health insurance coverage for
the grantee. <br>
2. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be provided an office space, and
access to libraries and resources of Harvard University. <br>
<br>
Responsibilities of Postdoctoral Fellows: Residence in the area and
participation in Institute activities are required during the
appointment. Postdoctoral Fellows will be expected to give a
presentation at the Korea Colloquium seminar series.<br>
Eligibility: Applicants must have received their PhD degree in 2001 or
later, in Korean studies with a focus on translations of Korean
literature. The applicant who is offered a fellowship must have
completed all requirements for the PhD degree by July 1, 2006.<br>

Application Process<br>
Applicants should submit one original & four copies* of a complete
application consisting of the following:<br>
• Official transcript of grades *(Only 1 original necessary; other 4
copies may be duplicates.) <br>
• Curriculum vitae: please include citizenship, Social Security
number, current and permanent addresses, telephone number(s), email
address; academic degrees with dates of conferral, discipline and
institution. <br>
• List of publications, translations (--this may be included in your
CV) <br>
• Two letters of recommendation (signed and sealed). These must be
enclosed with application unless an exception is granted (in which
case, recommendations being sent separately must reach the Korea
Institute by the application deadline). *(Only one original of each
recommendation needed; the Korea Institute will duplicate these.) <br>
• Dissertation abstract and table of contents (up to 3 pages; be
sure your name is designated at top of each page) <br>
• Plan of research (on separate sheet, up to 2 pages): What
translation related activities do you propose during the fellowship
period? What are the advantages of doing your postdoctoral fellowship
at Harvard; are there specific individuals you hope to seek out while
in residence? <br>

• Cover sheet: on a separate sheet, please provide the following
information, retyping each question in this order: <br>
• Name <br>
• University & dept. (of PhD)<br>
• Field of Study<br>
• Thesis title<br>
• Date Ph.D. received (or, if pending, give specific timeline)<br>
• Name of 2 recommenders<br>
• Short summary (c. 40 words) of research plan<br>
• Do you have a continuing teaching position? If yes, where? If
teaching, have you obtained approval from your dept. to accept a
postdoctoral position (if received) for 2006-07?<br>
• Have you previously applied for a Harvard postdoctoral fellowship? If
yes, when?<br>
• Are you currently applying for other postdoctoral fellowships? If so,
which? <br>
