<P><BR>I have waited for this topic for a long time.</P>

<P>I have been more involved with film studies and cultural studies than any other disciplines. </P>

<P>Though my thought is not a typical attitude of cultural studies scholar, at least I can add</P>

<P>what I felt and found as a person who have been thinking about how Korea should be known</P>

<P>to foreigners.</P>

<P>When I went to New York conference in 2003, I visited book exhibition site. </P>

<P>I saw many other Asian related books but hardly found Korea related books.</P>

<P>The most impressive Korea-related book that I found was the English translation of </P>

<P>Yu Sung-Yong's Jingbirok. I did not expect Yu's book was translated. I wish more great</P>

<P>fictions and nonfictions were translated and circulated in other countries.</P>

<P>My point is "It is 'culture' that interests or leads people into some study.'</P>

<P>The interest in Korean culture can attract people and lead them into Korean studies.</P>

<P>And now internationally, one of the most prominent things about Korea is its popular culture</P>

<P>and sports, which is worth examination and consideration. </P>

<P> </P>

<P>It is 'Cha Bum-Geum' that makes Germans know 'Korea'.</P>

<P>It is 'Hong Sang Soo' or 'Park Chan Wook' that makes American movie fans read books about</P>

<P>Korea and lead them to take Korean language course.</P>

<P>Some Korean young people learn Japanese after they read Anime or comic books.</P>

<P>In some aspect, the introduction of Korean culture and literature attract people's interest</P>

<P>and make them develop their interest to other disciplines - history, politics, economy, and so on.</P>

<P>More literatures and cultures should have been introduced and translated, which could</P>

<P>have broadened and attracted more people into Korean studies. </P>

<P>The more cultural products are introduced and translated, the bigger the interest in Korea and</P>
