<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto">My paper is a reflection on “communities<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum">”</span> of the ‘Poor<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum">’</span> during two periods in recent Korean history <span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum">–</span> the era of rapid urbanization from the 1960s to 1980s and in post-1997 financial crisis Korea. Drawing upon interviews, participant-observation, and textual analysis conducted in a former shantytown (taldongne), in a <span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum">“</span>shantytown museum,<span style="mso-fareast-font-family: Dotum">”</span> and with members of an online group for the unemployed, I explore the ways that community among the poor was and is imagined, built, and sustained. </p>
