I am attaching here the announcement regarding the upcoming MCAA which
is October 19-21, 2007.<br>
<br>
I would appreciate it if you could forward this announcement to your
friends/counterparts at other universities encouraging them to consider
submitting a paper, panel, or workshop for the conference. Remind them
the submission deadline is May 31.<br>
<br>
You might note that members of the EAS Faculty at WU will be hosting
roundtables on: translations, poetry, and the pedagogy of Chinese
literature and culture classes. Invite them to participate.<br>
<br>
Remind them that the MCAA welcomes panel or paper proposals from
undergraduates as well as graduates.<br>
<br>
And we do not limit our program only to those with midwest
affiliations, though all presenters must be members of MCAA to appear
on the program.<br>
<br>
If you would like me to draft a letter for you, I will be happy to do
so. It is very important that each and everyone of us pushes to ensure
that word about the MCAA gets out, gets to the right people, and gets
out at the right time--now, next month, and during the summer as well.
The program can only be successful if every one in the EAS program does
what we can to promote it. Please consult our MCAA website for

The East Asian Studies Program at Washington University will host the
56th Annual Meeting of the Midwest Conference on Asian Affairs on
October 19-21, 2007 on the Washington University campus. The <font
color="#000000">MCAA</font>
seeks to encourage scholarly interchange between Asianists located in
the Midwest and promote Asian studies both at the university and the
secondary and primary levels.
<p>Proposals are solicited for panels, roundtables, and individual
papers in all fields dealing with East, South, and Southeast Asia, the
Asian Diaspora, and topical and comparative panels. Faculty, graduate,
and undergraduate students, as well as independent Asianists, are
encouraged to participate and attend. </p>
<p>Proposals are due May 31, 2007. Persons presenting papers must be
members of <font color="#000000">MCAA</font> and should pre-register
by August 1, 2007.
