<DIV><FONT size=2>AND TECHNOLOGY IN EAST ASIA<BR><BR>The Department of East 
Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard<BR>University, in collaboration 
with the Department of the History of<BR>Science, is accepting applications for 
a new postdoctoral fellowship in<BR>the History of Modern Science and Technology 
in East Asia.  Preference<BR>will be given to research projects exploring 
the understudied histories<BR>of modern science and technology in Korea and 
Japan, but all proposals<BR>concerning the development of science and technology 
in post-nineteenth<BR>century East Asia will be considered.<BR><BR>The 
Fellowship Grant:  The fellowship will begin September 1, 2008, and<BR>end 
June 30, 2009, and will carry a stipend of $43,000.  The recipient<BR>will 
have the opportunity to participate in Harvard’s affiliate health<BR>insurance 
program.  The postdoctoral fellow will be provided office<BR>space and 
access to the libraries and resources of Harvard University,<BR>and will be 
invited to participate in the academic life of the<BR>Departments of East Asian 
Languages and Civilizations and the History 
of<BR>Science.<BR><BR>Responsibilities of Postdoctoral Fellow:<BR><BR>The fellow 
will be expected to reside in the Cambridge/Boston area<BR>during the 
appointment and to work on revising his or her dissertations<BR>for 
publication.  The fellow will also be expected 
to:<BR>1.      teach or collaborate on one course (in 
the spring semester) related<BR>to the history of modern science and/or 
technology in East Asia<BR>2.      give at least one 
presentation of research to faculty and graduate<BR>students in East Asian 
Languages and Civilizations and the History of<BR>Science.<BR><BR>Eligibility: 
Applicants must have received their Ph.D. degree in 2003 or<BR>later; the person 
chosen to receive the fellowship must have completed<BR>all requirements for the 
Ph.D. degree by July 1, 2008.<BR><BR>Application Deadline: Applications must be 
received by February 8, 2008.<BR>Applications should include the following: 1. 
cover letter; 2.<BR>curriculum vitae; 3. dissertation summary and postdoctoral 
research<BR>plans (up to three pages); 4. a syllabus of a course (for 
both<BR>undergraduates and graduate students) on either the whole or some 
broad<BR>aspect of the history of modern science and/or technology in East 
Asia;<BR>5) three letters of recommendation. Materials should be sent
