The successful <BR>candidate should possess a methodological profile in the social sciences <BR>or cultural studies, with a research emphasis on modern Korea in its <BR>global and East Asian context (19^th to 21^st c.). In addition to <BR>Korean, he/she should be proficient in at least one other East Asian <BR>language. The candidate?s course offerings will be part of a new <BR>graduate programme in East Asian Studies and hence need to address <BR>social and cultural processes (including popular culture) in Korea and <BR>East Asia in such a manner as to facilitate interdisciplinary <BR>cooperation with other departments in the social sciences as well as in <BR>area and cultural studies.<BR><BR>Rights and obligations of the faculty member derive from the <BR>?Sächsisches Hochschulgesetz? (SächsHSG) and the ?Sächsische <BR>Dienstaufgabenverordnung.? Applicants need to qualify under the rules of <BR>employment stipulated by §58 SächsHSG. One of the key requirements <BR>stipulated by this law is possession of a postdoctoral degree <BR>(?Habilitation?) or equivalent scholarly achievements.<BR><BR>Female candidates are specifically encouraged to apply.
