face="Times New Roman">In 1979, Dr. James Palais (PhD Harvard 1968), former UW
professor of Korean History, edited and published the first volume of the <I
style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Journal of Korean Studies</I>. For thirteen
years it was a leading academic forum for innovative, in-depth research on
<st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">Korea</st1:place></st1:country-region>. In 2004, former editors
Gi-Wook Shin (Stanford) and John Duncan (UCLA) revived this outstanding
publication at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Stanford</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>.</FONT></P>

of <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Washington</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>. With the
editorial guidance of Clark Sorensen and Hwasook <st1:country-region
w:st="on">Nam</st1:country-region>, the <I
style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Journal of Korean Studies</I> (<I
style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">JKS</I>) continues to be dedicated to
publishing outstanding articles, from all disciplines, on a broad range of
historical and contemporary topics concerning <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Korea</st1:country-region></st1:place>.
In addition the <I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">JKS</I> publishes reviews
