<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><span lang="en-GB">The Faculty of East
Asian Studies </span><span lang="de-DE">of Ruhr University Bochum,
Germany, </span><span lang="en-GB">is seeking to appoint a </span>
</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;" lang="en-GB"><span lang="en-GB"><b>Junior
Professor
for Society and Culture in East Asia (</b></span><span lang="de-DE"><b>assistant
professorship, 3+3 years, no tenure track, </b></span><span
lang="en-GB"><b>W1
salary bracket)</b></span><br>
to start at the earliest
possible date.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><span lang="en-GB">The successful
applicant will represent the subject area of “Society and Culture
in East Asia” in research and teaching. He or she must have proven
ability in the Social Sciences or Cultural Scie</span><span lang="en-GB">nces
and be able to convey cross-regional and cross-cultural perspectives
in his or her teaching. An excellent command of at least one East
Asian language is essential.</span></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;" lang="en-GB">Ideally, part of the
courses taught by the successful applicant should complement and
expand the M.A. programme in “East Asian Politics”.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm;"><span lang="en-GB">Applicants should
have a university degree and be holders of a PhD with a very good
dissertation, which as a rule should have been gained within the last
five years. Applicants with a post-doctoral lecture qualification
(Habilitation) cannot be considered. There is no upper age limit.
Only a German citizen or citizen of a European Union country can be
employed as a civil servant on a fixed-term contract.</span></p>

proven ability to attract outside research funding</p>

across disciplines and to cooperate on joint research initiatives</p>

competencies and a strong commitment to teaching</p>
