<DIV><BR>The Department of History at the Free University of Berlin
(Prof.<BR>Sebastian Conrad) is inviting applications for 4 positions as
doctoral<BR>researchers in the project Korea and East Asia in Global
History,<BR>1840-2000. Positions will be for three years, starting from
February<BR>2011 or as soon as possible thereafter.<BR><BR>The project Korea and
East Asia in Global History, 1840-2000 aims to<BR>assess the place, role, and
impact of Korea and East Asia in the<BR>processes of global integration between
1840 and the present. It focuses<BR>on processes and problematics that need to
be addressed within a<BR>regional and/or global framework. The four main areas
of research within<BR>the larger project are: Empires and colonies; cultural
translations;<BR>Capitalism, labor, and migration; and Regionalisms in East
Asia. The<BR>project is funded by the Academy of Korean Studies.<BR><BR>For

welcome applications from researchers familiar with East Asian<BR>history and
proficient in Korean, Japanese or Chinese. A research focus<BR>that includes
Korea is preferred. We also ask for a good command of the<BR>English language.
Applications should include a 1-page research project<BR>outline, a CV, and a
cover letter. Salaries will be calculated on the<BR>basis of E13 TVÖD, 50% of
the German salary scheme.<BR><BR>Deadline for applications: December 17,
