are pleased to announce the publication of the Summer 2012 issue of the <i>Korea Journal</i> (vol. 52, no. 2). This issue is composed of eight articles covering
various topics in the field of Korean Studies, all of which have been selected
through the journal’s rigorous reviewing process.</font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"> </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">The
first article by Hee Kyung Suh explores the question of just war theory as it
applies to the Korean War by relying on the work of Michael Walzer, and, based
on Walzer’s work, concludes with a judgment on the responsibilities for the
intervention in and the waging of the Korean War.</font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"> </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">The
second article by Kim Ji Hyung shows how thoroughly and actively the Rhee
administration mobilized and used the existing civilian organizations and networks
to track down collaborators after the recapturing of Seoul on September 28,
1950.</font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"> </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Park
Hong-kyu’s article pays attention to how King Sejong, who has been known as a
typical Confucian king, employed <i>zhongyong</i>
(doctrine of the mean) when he expressed support for a Buddhist event of repairing
the <i>sarigak</i> at Heungcheonsa temple in
1435 and came into conflict with his Confucian subjects.</font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" align="left" style="text-align:left;word-break:keep-all"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"> </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span lang="EN-US">Yoo
Weon-ki’s article addresses the Four-Seven Debate between Toegye and Gobong in
the late 16^th century, with a focus on the word “<i>bal</i> </span>氣<span lang="EN-US">” (<i>fa</i> in Chinese pronunciation), a concept
that played a significant role in the debate.</span></font></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"> </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">Lim
Tae-seung’s article explores the artistic spirit of Shin Yun-bok, a Korean
painter of 18th-century Joseon, who the author views as having criticized the
reality of Confucian society through the icon of the lotus.<span style="color:#0070c0"> </span></font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US" style="color:rgb(0,112,192)"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"> </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">The
sixth article by Jong-Taick Joo reveals the process of identity formation and
transformation of a rural Korean folk village named Oeam, following its tourism
development. </font></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-US"><font face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif">The
seventh article co-authored by Jang Dong-Jin and Choi Won Jae diagnoses the
current situation of Muslim immigrants in Korea and suggests a more positive
direction</font></span></p>
