They indicate that although Latin was in use in Korea among the French Missionaries and that learning Latin was part of the preparation for becoming a priest, leaning Latin in Korea probably did not happen before 1855 when they set up a seminary in Baeron. Interestingly, two priests who arrived in 1856 and worked there wrote Latin dictionaries, Fr Pourthie a Korea-Chinese-Latin Dictionary, Fr Petitnicolas a Latin-Korean, neither of which seem to have survived..
