Here we go:<br><br>(a) Language/phrase question:<br>If any of you has taken Classical Chinese using the Erich Haenisch <br>volumes (in the 80s we still used those), you know that his grammar <br>explanations were sometimes rather weird, if not wrong. But this one <br>here is from an interview he gave in the 1920s to a Korean magazine;
<br>the published version must have been edited by the Korean journalist. <br>Not sure if Haenisch did that in English or in written form in Hanmun <br>(well possible). Understanding this very sentence correct is kind of a <br>crucial issue for my interest in that interview, *if* it does not <br>simply mean that "Mr. Kim received a PhD title" but something else:<br>QUOTE: 金氏인데 일즉이 랍입치히 대학에서 同敎授에게 敎授를 바덧다함니다<br>.<br>Of course, the orthography is not up to today's standard. What I do not <br>understand, though, is the "대학에서 同敎授에게 敎授를" part. Not the <br>grammar, and also not what a 同敎授 is! That 'tong'--is that possibly <br>Chinese grammar in a Korean sentence, a preposition like 'with'? Still <br>do not understand it then. The Mr. Kim that Haenisch talks about did <br>just receive a doctor title. However, he had also taught before at the <br>university he received
it from. Maybe that helps interpreting it?<br><br>(b) .ezPDF files (<a href="http://www.unidocs.co.kr/sub/sub01_08.html" target="_blank">http://www.unidocs.co.kr/sub/sub01_08.html</a>) on a Mac:<br>Anyone knows a way to read OR convert (to standard PDF or MS Word) the <br>Korean .ezPDF files? That is a very popular format at the academic <br>Korean RISS and KERIS databases.
