<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Arial">The University of Michigan
Museum of Art (UMMA) is seeking a research associate of Korean art who will work
with the Curator of Asian Art on the reinstallation of UMMA’s Woon-Hyung Lee
and Korea Foundation Gallery of Korean Art. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Arial"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Arial">The research associate will
be involved in research, interpretation and writing on UMMA’s collection of
Korean art that holds more than 450 objects including ceramics, paintings, lacquer
wares, and folk art pieces from the archaeological period to the present. This
is an hourly, part-time position, which will start in late fall 2015 and end in
summer 2016. The hourly rate will be $20-$25 depending on the applicant’s qualifications
and experience. The research associate is not required to live locally,
although he or she is required to be able to make at least one trip to Ann
Arbor, MI, paid by UMMA, to see and research the collection. It is a great
opportunity for an advanced graduate students or junior-level scholar who wants
to know more about UMMA’s Korean art collection and to gain work experience in
a museum setting. The Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation, South
Korea, funds this position and project.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Arial"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Arial">Qualifications: Applicants
must have a strong background in Korean art history and an ability to conduct
primary research in the Korean language. A Master’s degree in art history or
related field is required as well as a native-level proficiency of the Korean
language. Must be able to work independently but take direction. Must be able
to meet deadlines and deliver products on an agreed-to schedule. </span></p>
