<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:125%"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:125%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Kyujanggak Symposium – call for panels</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:125%"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:125%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"> </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:125%"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:125%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">This year the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies will hold its 11<sup>th</sup> annual Symposium on Korean Studies

 on <u>August 23 and 24</u>. The Symposium brings together 5 to 6 panels of scholars from across the globe, and has established itself as one of the prime venues for the presentation of in-depth research on Korean Studies. The theme for this year’s Symposium

 is “Conflict, Reconciliation, and Records.” Technically still at war, the Korean peninsula has often been the stage of war, rebellion, and conflict. This conference will look especially at how Koreans have tried to make sense of these conflicts, and how they

 have sought to reestablish peace or international relations in the aftermath of these conflicts. We would like to invite in particular panels that look at the records of conflict: war novels, diplomatic negotiation, or reminiscences. While “Conflict” itself

 has received substantial attention from researchers, the reconciliation or processing of conflict has received much less attention, and this is what the symposium aims to address.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:125%"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:12.0pt; line-height:125%; font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">While we prefer panel proposals (up to four presenters including the chair-organizer), we will also consider individual

 paper proposals. For panel proposals, please write a short introduction to the panel and list the titles of individual presentations. Please provide names and contact details of all presenters, as well as short CVs (2 pages). The timetable for submitting abstracts

 and full papers will later be communicated to all selected panels and presenters. Selected presenters will receive airfare reimbursement (up to 1800 USD for Europe and North America, up to 600 USD for East Asia; for other regions please enquire directly with

 the organizers), as well as free accommodation for the duration of the conference (up to three nights).
