<br>The <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.7">UW</span> Jackson School of International Studies (<span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.8">JSIS</span>) combines the
social sciences, humanities, and professional fields to enhance our
understanding of our increasingly interconnected globe. <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.9">JSIS</span> offers
seven undergraduate majors, 14 minors, and nine interdisciplinary MA
degrees, and is the home of eight Department of Education (USED) Title
VI National Resource Centers. <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.10">JSIS</span> is a department in the Social
Sciences Division of the College of Arts and Sciences.
<br>
<br>The <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.11">JSIS</span> Center for Korea Studies is an acknowledged leader in the
field regionally, nationally, and internationally. The Associate
Director works with all Asian studies programs in the Jackson School
(China Studies, Japan Studies, and East Asia Center) as well as
Departments and Schools across all <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.12">UW</span> campuses managing Korea-related
projects and needs; working to balance the interests of all
stakeholders. This position is responsible for managing relations with
local stakeholders in the community, as well as working closely with
international government agencies. It is also responsible for developing
and maintaining collaborative cross-disciplinary and cross-regional
programs; developing and maintaining relationships with academic
administrators, other academic units, Korea Studies faculty, graduate
students and undergraduates to communicate Center goals and
programs/projects; developing and maintaining relationships with
local/national organizations and national associations and centers to
advance the mission of the Center.
<br>
<br>This is a 75% <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.13">FTE</span>, 12-month position. If sufficient funding becomes available, this position may be increased to 100% <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.14">FTE</span>.
<br>
<br>Duties include, but are not limited to:
<br>
<br><b>ADMINISTRATION:</b>
<br><li>Set annual goals and establish benchmarks for Center performance.
<br></li><li>Manage all communication between the Center and the Korean government including all performance reports and budgets.
<br></li><li>Using Excel and <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.15">MyFinancialDesktop</span>, reconcile Korea Studies
grant budgets, gift budgets, and revenue accounts, and track monthly
expenditures and changes to the budgets.
<br></li><li>Act as contact for all Korea Studies' donors and provide
ongoing stewardship for these donors. Identify and work with potential
new donors to the Center, for purposes of fund-raising and increasing
visibility of Center.
<br></li><li>Manage all aspects of the Center’s Visiting Faculty
Program, including obtaining J-1 visas for visiting faculty, and keeping
them apprised of all relevant talks and activities offered by the
Center and <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.16">JSIS</span>.
<br></li><li>Actively seek support for and administer all Center student fellowships.
<br></li><li>Recruit, train, and supervise student employees.
<br>
<br><b>PUBLIC OUTREACH & EVENTS:</b>
<br></li><li>Create instructional, research, and educational programs
that will maximize the Center’s resources while meeting stated goals of
the Center grants, with full independent authority to undertake, fund,
and evaluate all activities initiated.
<br></li><li>Collaborate with other <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.17">JSIS</span> outreach centers to organize workshops for general public and K-12 and community college educators.
<br></li><li>Develop and oversee coordination of regular lectures and symposiums throughout the year.
<br></li><li>Collaborate with off-campus community partners on joint activities for public and business outreach events and programs.
<br></li><li>Attend Korean community events to establish a connection
between the Korean community and Korea Studies at <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.18">UW</span>, and to network
with community members.
<br></li><li>Serve on campus, local, and national boards pertaining to
the core functions of the Center with full authority to determine
Center’s role in on-campus and off-campus partnerships.
<br></li><li>Develop and oversee the publication of all printed and
electronic material connected to the Center for Korea Studies, and
oversee updating of website.
<br>
<br><b>GRANT WRITING:</b>
<br></li><li>Seek, apply for, and administer grants to fund Center for Korea Studies activities.
<br></li><li>Assist East Asia Center Managing Director in the
preparation of Department of Education Title VI East Asia Center grant
applications, as needed.
<br>
<br><b>REQUIREMENTS:</b>
<br></li><li>Master’s degree in East Asian Studies, Korean Studies,
International Studies, or other related discipline, and at least three
years of relevant administrative experience.
<br></li><li>Experience with successful grant writing and reporting.
<br></li><li>Excellent Korean language skills and significant experience in interacting with the Korean-American community.
<br></li><li>Demonstrated proficiency in Excel and experience with budget management and tracking.
<br></li><li>General office management experience, including supervisory experience.
<br></li><li>Excellent writing, copy editing, and basic research skills.
<br></li><li>Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with diverse groups.
<br></li><li>Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to establish priorities.
<br></li><li>Excellent written and oral communication skills, including
the ability to work effectively with presenters, program participants,
and <span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.19">UW</span> faculty and staff.
<br></li><li>Excellent computer skills with advanced knowledge of
Microsoft Office, and desktop publishing, with an aptitude for learning
additional software programs, as needed.
<br></li><li>Flexible schedule to allow for occasional attendance at evening and weekend events sponsored by the Center.
<br></li><li>Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all
minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as
a license/certification/registration.
<br>
<br><b>DESIRED:</b>
<br></li><li><span tabindex="-1" id=":3z0.20">Ph</span>.D. in Korean Studies, International Studies, or other related discipline.
<br></li><li>Extensive knowledge of, and experience living, or conducting research, in Korea.
<br></li><li>Ability to speak fluently and read Korean.
<br></li><li>Appointment to this position is contingent upon obtaining satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
