Relating postcolonial discourses to a reading of Manchurian action films, kisaeng and gangster films, and revenge horror films, Parameters of Disavowal shows how filmmakers reworked, recontextualized, and erased ideas and symbols of colonial power. In particular, Jinsoo An examines how South Korean films privileged certain sites, such as the kisaeng house and the Manchurian frontier, generating unique meanings that challenged the domination of the colonial power, and how horror films indirectly explored both the continuing trauma of colonial violence and lingering emotional ties to the colonial order. Espousing the ideology of nationalism while responding to a new Cold War order that positioned Japan and South Korea as political and economic allies, postcolonial cinema formulated distinctive ways of seeing and imagining the colonial past.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='word-break:break-hangul'><span lang=EN-US style='font-size:10.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='word-break:break-hangul'><span lang=EN-US style='font-size:10.0pt'>Author:<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:10.0pt'>안진수<span lang=EN-US> (Jinsoo An)<o:p></o:p></span></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt'>안진수는<span lang=EN-US> UCLA </span>영화와<span lang=EN-US> TV </span>학과에서 한국 멜로드라마의 대중논리에 대한 논문으로 박사를 취득하고<span lang=EN-US> New York University</span>동아시아학과에서 박사 후 연구과정을 거쳐 홍익대학교 조형대학에서<span lang=EN-US> 5</span>년간 교편을 잡았다<span lang=EN-US>. 2012</span>년<span lang=EN-US> UC </span>버클리대학 동아시아 어문화학과로 자리를 옮겨 한국영화를 강의하고 있다<span lang=EN-US>. </span>지금까지 다룬 한국영화 관련 주제는 기독교의 재현<span lang=EN-US>, </span>민족주의의 표상<span lang=EN-US>, </span>역사극<span lang=EN-US>, </span>법정드라마의 대중정의<span lang=EN-US>, </span>컬트 영화 미학 등이다<span lang=EN-US>. 2018</span>년 저서<span lang=EN-US> “</span>부인<span lang=EN-US>(</span>否認<span lang=EN-US>)</span>의 경계<span lang=EN-US>”(Parameters of Disavowal”)</span>은 해방 이후 남한영화의 식민시기 재현에 대한 분석서이며 현재는<span lang=EN-US> 1970</span>년대 권위주의 체제의 영화를 연구 중이다<span lang=EN-US>. </span>동대학의 부교수로 재직중이다<span lang=EN-US>. <o:p></o:p></span></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span lang=EN-US style='font-size:10.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p></div></body></html>
