<i>toraijin</i> </span><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Apple LiSung Light";mso-ascii-font-family:Tahoma;mso-hansi-font-family:Tahoma;mso-bidi-font-family:Tahoma" lang="ZH-TW">渡來人</span><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma",sans-serif" lang="ZH-TW">

</span><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma",sans-serif">(K. <i>toraein</i>) or, perhaps, “the people who crossed over”—in this case, specifically early immigrants to the Japanese archipelago from the Korean peninsula. The book treats peninsular

 immigrants from the Mumun period (esp. ca. 800-400 BCE) through the Three Kingdoms period (ca. the 4th through 7<sup>th</sup> centuries) and their major contributions to the developmental transformation of Japanese culture and society. The volume provides

 a detailed, well-documented scholarly study of the <i>toraijin</i> with an extensive bibliography of relevant publications, archeological and historical, in Korean and Japanese as well as, to the limited extent presently possible, English.
