<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr"><i><br></i></div><div dir="ltr"><i>Korea Journal</i> is pleased to announce the publication of its Winter 2025 special issue, titled "Rethinking the Religious Landscape of Early 20th-Century Korea."</div><div dir="ltr"><br><span class="gmail_default" style="font-family:georgia,serif">A</span>long with an annotated translation and commentary on <span class="gmail_default" style="font-family:georgia,serif">"</span>Teachings of Master Haewol<span class="gmail_default" style="font-family:georgia,serif">," t</span>h<span class="gmail_default" style="font-family:georgia,serif">is</span> special issue features five research articles that investigate under-examined aspects of Korea\u2019s intellectual, religious, and political modernization.</div><div dir="ltr"><br>Guest edited by Professor Minjung Baek (The Catholic University of Korea), the contributors provide fresh perspectives on how indigenous movements\u2014including Donghak, Cheondogyo, Won Buddhism, and Daejonggyo\u2014attempted to articulate a uniquely Korean religiosity and practice during a period of immense transformation.<br><br>Through close textual analysis of works produced under Japanese censorship, this special issue illuminates <span class="gmail_default" style="font-family:georgia,serif">consequential</span> intellectual and religious interventions, from the "religionization" of Confucianism and the proliferation of apocalyptic prophecies to visions of <i>hucheon gaebyeok</i> (Great Awakening of the Later Heaven).<br><br></div><div dir="ltr">Founded in 1961, <i>Korea Journal</i> is an open-access, peer-reviewed quarterly promoting the global dissemination of Korean studies scholarship.
