Here are 7 tips to survive your online classes

Unread post by JohanLiebert »

It is not surprising that online classes are becoming more popular in recent times. Online classes allow students to fit in one more class, attend a community college at a lower tuition rate or complete their degree online.
Online classes can be very appealing. You can set your own schedule within the guidelines of the syllabus, work at your own pace and save money. Online classes can allow you to spend more time with your family, work, traditional classes, campus activities, and social life. Online classes can be stressful and overwhelming without proper discipline.
You might find yourself halfway through your semester with 6 lessons left or you miss the deadline for an important assignment if you don't keep up with your online classes.
It's easy for online classes to slip up on students, making your plans to save money or get ahead more difficult.
There are steps you can take that will help you avoid such nightmare-like situations.
You have already taken the first step towards survival. Now you can start looking for tools that will help you conquer your online class. Give yourself a big slap on the face, tell yourself you can do this, and follow these 7 tips for surviving online classes.
1. Register for your class as soon and as possible
Although it may seem obvious, knowing what your professor expects of you can help you create a plan that will get you the highest grade possible. Do not put off this task and assume that everything will be fine within the first week.
2. Register to your class frequently
It is tempting to log on at the beginning of the semester. Make a plan and log out only when you have an assignment. Things can change, just as in traditional classes. Sometimes, your professor might have to adjust the schedule or decide that an additional assignment is needed. You won't be surprised no matter what the change may be. Logging in frequently will help you not to be surprised.
You can set an alarm for each day or every few weeks to remind you to log into and to then adhere to the schedule that you have created.
3. Give your class a specific time of the day
Online classes are flexible enough to fit in any schedule, even if there isn't a specific class time. Online classes don't have to be scheduled at a particular time. This makes it easy to postpone if you have something else on your mind.
You will be more engaged and on-track if you have a schedule and a time for each course. You can use iCal and Google Calendar to plan your coursework and keep track of your deadlines.
4. Get to know your professor
This is strange, as you rarely meet your professors online. However, if you look at it from the perspective of your professors, you don't meet them either. You're just a faceless person who gets good grades and bad grades.
It is a good idea to send an email to introduce your self to give them something to look at when they grade your work.
5. Ask for help!
It can be difficult to find the right time to ask for help in a challenging section of class without a scheduled class time. As we said above, professors can still be real people, even though they are online classes. They want to help you get the best grades possible. It's easy to contact them by email or via the message board that they have set up.
6. Make the most of technology
There are tons of study tools that you can find online and in apps. You can find great online coding classes for free if you are taking an online computer science course. Khan Academy can help you with math problems.
7. Get connected with other students
Even if you feel like it, you are not the only one in class. Reach out to other students and ask if they are experiencing the same struggles as you. Perhaps you could create a google group study group or discussion thread to help students get the help they need.
