What is fosfomycin used to treat?
Fosfomycin 3gm sachet is an antibiotic primarily used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by bacteria, such as Escherichia coli (E. coli). It works by inhibiting the bacteria's ability to form cell walls, effectively killing the bacteria. Fosfomycin is often used for uncomplicated UTIs, including cystitis (bladder infections). It is typically taken as a single-dose treatment, making it convenient for patients. Though effective, it is not commonly used for more severe or complicated infections. As with any antibiotic, it’s important to complete the prescribed course to avoid resistance and ensure the infection is fully treated.
