Kim Ki-man (b. 1929)

The younger brother of Unbo Kim Ki-ch'ang, currently South Korea's most respected (and well compensated) oriental-style brush painter, Kim Ki-man works and teaches at the Mansudae Art Studio in P'yŏngyang, the most prestigious art institution in North Korea. Like his brother, Kim is an oriental-style painter. He was born in Seoul in 1929, but he received most of his formal art education after Liberation in North Korea. From 1960, he studied at the P'yŏngyang Art University, and served as vice-director of the Korean Folklore Museum for several years upon graduation.
