Dear all,

an article in the July 29 online issue of the Korea Herald:

http://www.koreaherald.co.kr/kh0729/m0729106.html

is titled: =84Universities Placing Less Emphasis on Standardized Entrance
Exam=93. SNU and Sogang Univ., for example, are planning for the future to
select up to 80% of their freshmen based on recommendations by high school
principals.

It is no doubt necessary to do something concerning those horrible entrance
exams, but a selection based on recommendations by single persons, who can
easily be identified and contacted by the parents... Sounds like fighting
one evil with just another. Aren=92t there alternative, less dangerous ways
to reform the entrance procedure? I am sure some of you have already
thought about this, it might be an interesting point of discussion for this
list.
