And here are the data from the 1997 Statistical Yearbook (p. 610) for the
year 1996:

Central national library  1
National Assembly library 1
Public libraries         304
College and university libraries  385
School libraries    7656
Special libraries    438

The total number of libraries went up from 7364 (1990) to 8785 (1996),
whereas in 1993 it was at 10 145. The number of staff has been reduced from
16285 (1990) to 11 701 (1996), the budget was lower, too (156 387 million
Wòn 1990 to 145327 million in 1996). The number of volumes has more than
doubled (5 182 076 to 11 384 626).
