My apologies for this late announcement of the Chosenshi
kenkyukai's 35th annual conference to be held this coming weekend, October
17-18, at Kanagawa University, in the Tokyo-Yokohama area.

This year's theme is "Regional Society and the State". On
Saturday, from 12:30 pm (doors open at noon), there will be three special
lectures by Itou Abito on cultural anthropology and regional society,
Higuchi Yuuichi on ethnic Koreans in Japan and regional society, and Yi
KyOngUn on the 50th anniversary of the peninsula states. The four
presentations on Sunday, from 10 am (doors open at 9:30 am), will focus on
regional society in the mid-Choson period, the late nineteenth
century-early twentieth century, and the colonial period. Following the
presentation on Sunday will be a dinner at Kanagawa University which all
participants are welcome to attend. (The dinner begins at 6 pm.)

There is a single, 1000 yen charge for participation on one or both
days. The specific site is: Kanagawa University, Building 11, Room 1111.
For further information, including directions, please contact Ken Robinson.
