Dear Tolerant Colleagues:

After proofreading the announcement four times, I just sent it out not
ten minutes ago to all of you, immediately following which I found I
had invited you to the Forum for APRIL to be held on June 9.

This is to assure you that the Forum on June 9 is the forum for June,
not the Forum for April.

FULBRIGHT FORUM!!

Fulbright in Seoul (the Korean American Educational Commission) is pleased
to invite you to attend the Fulbright Forum for June, which will be held on
Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at 6:30 p.m. at the Commission offices.

This month's forum will be:

"Paekche Paintings: Evidence of an Amicable Korea-Japan Relationship"

The presenter, Ms. Virginia Moon, currently in a master's program in
Korean art history in the Department of East Asian Studies at Harvard
University, and is a Fulbrighter doing research on Korean art history
within East Asian art at Seoul National University.

While actual remaining paintings from the Paekche period are few,
those that have managed to survive not only serve to confirm the
sophisticated artistry of the Three Kingdoms period, but exist as
visual reminders of a once natural and beneficial relationship
between Korea and Japan during the 4th-7th centuries. This work
in progress will introduce the art historical context in which these
paintings have emerged, the nature of Korea-Japan relations at the
time and some of the present-day controversies due to the cultural
implications of these works of art.

We welcome to the Forum all Fulbrighters, senior lecturers and junior
researchers, as well as Board Members, Fulbright alumni, Peace Corps
alumni, Korean studies scholars, foreign graduate students, and other
friends of Korea and members of the Fulbright family.

The presentation will be followed by a reception (lots of hors-d'oeuvres!).
We hope many friends will come to enjoy the lecture, the discussion, the
food, and the liquid refreshment.

Place: Fulbright offices
(Kohap Building Suite 403. Take the #3 orange line to stop #18, Anguk
Station, and walk out by exit #5, to the 4th bldg on the right (with a
garish "Happylon" sign in English.)

Date: Wednesday, June 9, 1999

Time: 6:30 p.m.

See you on the 9th!

(RSVP and directions: Miss Park, 732-7922)
