I'm only familiar with the literary work, _Imjin nok_.  Peter H. Lee's
article "The _Imjin nok_ or the _Record of the Black Dragon Year_: An
Introduction" in _Korean Studies_ (Vol.  14, pp. 50-83) might help to
sort out the historical and legendary players in the war.
