Colleagues: UCLA is seeking to make an appointment in modern Humanities this
academic year.  We are especially interested in applications from younger
scholars in cultural history, literature, and other humanistic disciplines. 
ABDs whose dissertations will be completed by July 1, 2000, will be actively

field of modern Humanities relating to Korea. We seek a scholar with
demonstrated distinction and strong future potential in research & a
commitment
to undergraduate education.  The ideal candidate should have an impeccable
background in Korean Studies and be able to link the study of Korean
culture to
the broader East Asian region, as well as to the theory, methodologies, and
knowledge of a disciplinary field.  We also prefer a dynamic program builder,
who will contribute actively to UCLA’s burgeoning program in Korean Studies
and
contribute to interdisciplinary dialogue with colleagues throughout the univ.
We expect to make an appointment at the asst.-prof. level, but candidates at
the beginning associate-prof. level may also be considered. Ph.D. expected
upon
