Here, I forward the schedule of events in May.  The LCAAA (Library of
Congress Association of Asian Americans) and the Special Affirmative Action
Program, among others, have contributed much of their time and effort to
organize these activities.  You are all welcome, as the events are free and
open.

LIBRARY OF CONGRESS 2000 ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH VOICES FOR
THE MILLENNIUM


All activities will take place in the James Madison Memorial Building unless
otherwise noted.

May 2
Opening Presentation: "An Ch'angho and the Early Korean Americans," Dr.
Jacqueline Pak, Korea Specialist, Asian Division.
Dining Room A, 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m.

May 5
Film: "Chinatown" (1997), 57 minutes, a production of KQED, directed by
Felicia Lowe.  This award-winning documentary looks at the rich history and
thriving present of San Francisco's famous ethnic enclave.
Pickford Theatre, 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m.

May 9
Dance: Classical Cambodian Dances presented by Sovanny Chun, Devi Yim Dos,
Puthiwadh Hout, and Vuthy Khin Hout.
Mumford Room, 11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon.

May 11
Presentation: "In My Own Words: An Asian American in the Administration," by
June Shih, Speechwriter in the Clinton White House.  Mumford Room, 12:00
noon-1:00 p.m.

May 12
Film: Part I of "Beyond Barbed Wire" (1997), 45 minutes, by film makers
Terri DeBono, Steve Rosen, and Yukio Sumida.  This award-winning documentary
outlines the WWII battlefield accomplishments of the 100th Infantry
Battalion/442 Regimental Combat Team through the individual recollections of
its members.
Pickford Theatre, 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m.

May 15
Documentary Film: Part II of "Beyond Barbed Wire" (1997), 45 minutes.

May 17
Keynote Program: The Honorable Harold Hongju Koh, Assistant Secretary for
Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, Department of State, keynote speaker.
Musical performance: Joanna Pecore on the koto.
LJ 119, Thomas Jefferson Memorial Building, 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Reception immediately following keynote program.

May 18
Presentation: "In the Eyes of the Media," by Shari Macias and Mil Arcega,
News Reporters, NBC-4 TV.

May 23
Dramatic Reading: "Flipzoids," a one-act play by Ralph Peña, centering on
three Filipino immigrants, presented by Asian Stories In America (ASIA)
Theatre.
Dining Room A, 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m.

May 25
Presentation: "The Road Less Traveled: Asian-Americans in Education," by
Realista Rodriguez, Principal, South Lakes High School, Fairfax County
Public School System.
Dining Room A, 12:30-1:30 p.m.

May 26
Presentation and Violin Performance: "Daughter of Two Lands," by Susan
Spafford, Miss Pennsylvania 1999 and 2nd Runner-Up to Miss America 2000.
Coolidge Auditorium, 12:00 noon-1:30 p.m.
