My organization, The Korea Society sponsored a conference entitled
"Christianity in Korea: An Exploration of its Unique Development" in 1997.
We have published a conference report which I could send you if you're
interested. It has a great selected bibliography at the end as well as
paper abstracts of the works of presenters. Let me know if you'd like me to
send you a copy of the report.
best,
alina

Subject: research project
April 21, 2000
Dear Scholars,
I am a research student at Bronx Science engaged in a semester-long project
which focuses on the following questions:
1. How great a departure from the existing religious cultural life in
South Korea did the religious cultural life introduced by
Christianity in the 19th century represent?
2. What elements of modern South Korean cultural life should one
examine
in order to observe the lasting impact of the introduction of
Christianity in the 19th century?
3. What will be the impact of organized Christianity on South Korea's
cultural life in the decades to come?
In the course of my research I have accessed the standard reference works
and
indices. I have contacted the ambassador of South Korea in the United
States, Hong-Koo Lee, the ambassador of the United States in South Korea,
Stephen W. Bosworth, an officer of the Korean Political Science Association
in South Korea, Sang Yong Choi, and also referenced Christianity in Modern
Korea by Donald Clark of Trinity University in San Antonio.
Your insights and opinions on the above and related questions would be
greatly valued. In addition to your comments, the receipt of the titles of
any written materials which you feel I should reference are welcomed as are
the addresses of any on-line resources which you find particularly useful.
Finally, would you know of any other experts; in or out of academia, in the
U.S. or abroad, with a particular interest in my field of research? Their
names and affiliations would be of great assistance.
My research efforts culminate in mid-May. Any help/advice which you would
be
willing to share with me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Respectfully,
Jonathan Chan
