I'd have to say I'm sick to death of this topic and the sanctimonious
American and European attitudes on it (I was going to say "English" but
then I remembered Bridget Bardot!).
Let's lay it to rest. Please consult Calvin W. Schwabe, Unmentionable
Cuisine, U.Va Press, 1992 pp. 167-176, esp. p. 173 which discusses the
consumption of Hundefleisch in Switzerland.
I can respect, though not accept, the view of real vegetarians (those who
don't eat fish or other seafood [I'll never forget our son's girlfriend who
was a vegetarian, but had to have a plate of shrimp once in a while], who
don't wear leather, and don't swat mosquitos) but the rest do not deserve
another minute of our time-and this is the last time you'll hear from me on
the subject unless you need a reference to a good place in Seoul (I am
related to a real working class place), Pyongyang, Canton, or Hanoi. I do
my best to avoid the stuff, because I can't help think of Heather, Zeke,
Sugar, and the others, but I really can't understand the self-righteous who
eat grasshoppers or beef or shrimp and criticize those who eat dog.
