Amazon Begins North Korea-Related Service

       Amazon, the largest Internet bookstore in the world, has begun 
services related to North Korea, offering books published in 
Pyongyang and books on North Korea for sale, along with providing 
information on the books.
       On the notice recently put up on its Internet site, Amazon said 
that if users send e-mail messages, specifying their interested 
fields, the store will individually contact the North to help buy 
books as soon as it receives new shipments of books from North Korea 
or on North Korea.
       In connection with this, a Korean government official 
commented, "When Korean citizens buy books published in North Korea 
(not the books on North Korea) or have them sent to Korea, they are 
required to file an application with the Ministry of Unification for 
an approval."
