My concern is that in South Korea where "national hounour" is so closely
linked to "international image" many now hope that the prize will have a
positive effect. That is at least how I interpret reactions in Korean
media (someone even hoped that it would have a positive effect on the
troubled stockmarket through a better image of Korea). But in Swedish
newspapers, when mentioned (and it hasn't been often) most writers focus
on all the problems that still remain. And, unfortunately for Kim Dae
Jung, one of the few thing I have seen mentioned about contemporary
domestic politics is that Kim Dae Jung is considered quite tough on
labour unions. So, not much about what has actually been accomplished,
but instead focus on the problems that remain (but that is of course the
way media works). So I'm afraid Koreans will continue to be frustrated
at foreigners having a "wrong" image and "incorrect" knowledge of Korea.
