For AIDS, SBS did a good 2-part TV documentary a couple of months ago.
The first part was mainly about the situation in Africa but the second
part was centered on a Korean woman who had (like so many in Africa)
been infected by her husband and had then given birth to at least one
sero-positive child because she (and I think he at the time) did not
know. The virtually complete refusal of Korean society to talk openly
about almost every aspect of sexuality and sexual activity is quite
amazing (to use the mildest adjective) and the ignorance about both
issues (AIDS and homosexuality) is quite inexcusable in today's world.
It would be particularly important to repeal the law (?) which obliges
doctors to notify the authorities of the identity of newly detected AIDS
cases, thus effectively telling their families and employers since there
seems to be no code of privacy. It is effectively promoting the spread
of AIDS in Korean society by making those liable to infection and
suspecting that they may be sero-positive unable to undergo a test with
guarateed secrecy. They simply stay untested and sexually active.

Non-Koreans who are found to be sero-positive must leave the country at
once, of course ...

There is a lot to be said about all this, and a lot of brave Koreans (as
well as a lot of suffering Koreans) need all the support they can get.
