International Symposium on Proletarian Literature in East Asia 

November 1-2, 2002, at the University of Chicago

 

This symposium brings together scholars of Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean proletarian literature, drama and the visual arts.  Together, we will reinvestigate works by writers and artists who examined the relationships between capitalism, colonialism, class struggle, and nationalism during a period of tremendous industrial development, political unrest, booming mass media, and immanent war.
