[KS] failed Koreanists littering the streets

Hello,

Please do not take my assessment of the fate too seriously.
I was just echoing the difficulties some of the students
voiced, and I am always suspicious that many were partly
lazy.

Professor Ross King writes of certain exceptions.

>I can still count on two hands the number of non-heritage learners of
>Korean from North America that I have personally met who command Korean at
>a level higher than 2+ and learned their Korean at university in North
>America (in other words, not counting missionaries, Peace Corps grads, and
>soldiers & spies). This is a serious indictment of the current state of
>language teaching in our field.

>Cheers,

Immediately, all of them strike me as men with a sense of mission.
We have the men of god, men of peace, men of war, and
men of ...?

Well, I suppose not all first impressions lead to useful
generalization.

But is there something special about their experiences or
constitution that makes for their less difficult acquaintance
with Korean?

For those facing the deadline, wishing you the best of returns.

And hoping that you are all enjoying the blush of color
and the warmth of April.

Regards,

Lee JooBai
