Assistant Professor, Position No. 83370, Department of Political Science,
College of Social Sciences, University of Hawaii at Mânoa, full-time,
9-month, tenure-track appointment, to begin August 1, 2004.
Duties: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in comparative politics
and/or international relations with an area-focus on China and Korea;
conduct and publish research; share in advising; contribute to
departmental, college and community life and to the development of a new
Public Policy Center. Scholarly collaboration with School of Hawaiian,
Asian and Pacific Studies expected.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Political Science or related field with a
specialization in Chinese and Korean politics [ABD with degree in hand by
August 1, 2004, considered]. Demonstrated ability to teach and conduct
research on Chinese and Korean politics.
Desired qualifications: Ability to demonstrate a breadth of understanding
of traditional and contemporary approaches in the fields of comparative
politics and/or international relations; possess strong theoretical tools
and interests that are brought to bear on the study of Chinese and Korean
politics in interesting and innovative ways; expertise in areas such as
international political economy, international security, human rights,
United States China relations; violence, environmental and social
movements, globalization studies, and East Asian politics. Selected
candidate will be expected to teach a course on US-China relations once a
year; be involved in the creation of a new Public Policy Center in the
College; to participate in the relevant Area Centers on campus; and be
committed to innovative educational strategies and work with students with
diverse backgrounds and experiences. The College is committed to excellence

Salary Range: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
