I'm sure Prof. Ledyard (and many other list subscribers) are already 
well aware of this, but it should be mentioned that several versions 
of the _Imjinnok_--tales pertaining to the Hideyoshi 
invasions--describe "ally" Ming generals as severing the arteries of 
mountains and streams while circuiting Korea's eight provinces, e.g. 
"Yi YO-song-i p'alto-rUl tanimyO sanch'OnhyOlmaek-Ul kkUnt'Oni...."
