The Graduate School of Human and Environmental Studies at Kyoto 
University is pleased to announce a search for an outstanding scholar 
to teach media studies and Korean at the associate professor level 
beginning on April 1, 2005.  Details of the position are as follows:

Course of Studies of Cultural Societies, Department of Studies in 
Human Coexistence, Graduate School of Human and Environmental 
Studies, Kyoto University

Major Field: Media Studies

Teaching Responsibilities:
(Graduate) The successful candidate must obtain approval from the 
University Chartering Council to teach graduate courses and advise 
graduate degree theses at the M.A. and Ph.D. Levels.  The following 
is a list of graduate courses and the major field for which the 
successful candidate must be qualified to teach:

Ph.D. Level:
Media Studies
Studies of Cultural Societies and related courses

M.A. Level:
Media Studies Practicum and other related courses

Research Field for Supervision of Graduate Theses:
Media Studies

In addition to the above graduate courses, the successful candidate 
will teach media studies courses at the undergraduate level in the 
Faculty of Integrated Human Studies and Korean
Language (I, II) in the General Education and Liberal Arts program.

Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. or equivalent scholarly qualification
2. Experience teaching a foreign language, preferably Korean, at the 
university or junior college level.
3. Non-native speakers of Japanese should possess high-level 
proficiency in Japanese.

Date Employment Commences:
April 1, 2005

2. List of research publications
3. Copies (6) of five relevant scholarly publications.  Publications 
in languages other than Japanese should include a summary in Japanese.
4. A statement in Japanese (4,000 characters) describing previous 
research topics and accomplishments.

Screening of Applications:
Initial screening of applications will be based on submitted 
documents.  In the process of screening, short-listed applicants may 
be invited to an interview and asked to submit copies of all of their 
previous publications.  The university cannot provide travel expenses 
or accommodation for the interview.
