Dear list members,
on October 29th there will be a conference co-hosted by the Institute of CEO of Korea as well as the Asia Europe Perspective Forum. Many of the topics are highly relevant to contemporary Korean political and economic developments. All interested people are invited to this event co-sponsored by Hanns Seidel Foundation Korea.
INVITATION
The Establishment of a Free Market Economic System and the Role of CEOs in the Korean Economy
The Asia-Europe Perspective Forum (AEPF) functions as a bridge that connects political, economic and cultural sectors between Europe and Asia. In addition, the Institute for Chief Executive Officers of Korea is a representative organization, which is a good example of industry-university cooperation. Both of these academic groups have made great effort for further economic development as well as improvement of business activity in Korea. As this years draws to a close these two circles have planned a joint scholarly event as a result of continued mutual cooperation. This cooperation and other scholarly exchanges will help further means for contributing to the future of the East Asian economic community through exchanges with perspectives and experiences in Europe. Both organizing groups see the significance of East Asia in the 21st century in the framework of a changing world order and a growing trend toward regionalism. Particularly, after 9/11 the world faced many changes and
developments including an unprecedented form of unilateralism from neo-conservatives in Washington, expansion of the EU, a stronger role from ASEAN, the recovery of the Japanese economy, the emergence of China and lastly sustained inter-Korean relations. Consequently, more now than ever before the innovative ideas and endeavors of Korean CEOs is being emphasized.
The theme of this conference is The Establishment of a Free Market Economic System and the Role of CEOs in the Korean Economy which we hope will allow us to analyze the current situation and take time to reflect on the course of future directions and developments. During the first session, we discuss the dynamics of the political economy, the second session covers aspects of business management and the last session involves a final discussion with a focus on the future of Asia and Europe. Papers will be presented and discussed by both Korean and foreign experts which should help to provide a variety of different views and perspectives that will be helpful to government policy makers, scholars, CEOs and other individuals with an interest in cooperation between Asia and Europe. Lastly, I would like to express my gratitude to the presenters and discussants and to the sponsors who will most definitely make this conference a success. In addition, your active participation in the
conference will also help to ensure its successful outcome.
