Just a followup on this thread:
off the top of my head, I can name some female political scientists who focus on Korean Studies as a major part of their work:
Jeeyang Rhee Baum (UCSD)
Kathy Moon (Wellesley)
Eunmee Kim (formerly at USC, now Ewha)
Esook Yoon (Kent State)
I can easily name ten female polisci graduate students at top institutions. Also, FYI at Dartmouth we just hired a North Korea/theater specialist, Suk-Young Kim.
If Karen wants to go into the social sciences, go for it. We need more people doing quality work in the field.
