Hi !

That is one of the most researched topics in
south Korea -- in the area of modern Korean
history. If you visit the national Institute of
Korean History (Kuksa P'yônch'an Wiwônhoe,
http://kuksa.nhcc.go.kr) and its astounding
library you will find walls full of sources and
publications on the topic. Over the years there
have also been many articles been translated into
English. The Kuksa P'yônch'an Wiwônhoe would have
it all, and they also have great bibliographic
tools to find such publications. But your student
can even search such obvious publications as the
_Korea Journal_ online (PDFs downloadable). Many
Korean university research journals (otherwise in
Korean) have published English articles on
related topics as well.

If your student reads German I can suggest Roland
Wein's dissertation on the Shanghai Provisional
Government: "Die Rolle der Provisorischen
Regierung der Republik Korea (1919-1945) in der
koreanischen Unabhängigkeitsbewegung,"
Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, 1993 (394 pages).
That's a very good study.

Best regards,
Frank
